BM TRADA has responded to the positive feedback for its training course in cross-laminated timber, by unveiling more dates for 2014 as well as new content.
This year the course – which was unveiled in 2013 - will take place on Wednesday March 12 and Tuesday October 21 at BM TRADA’s High Wycombe headquarters. Last year’s course attracted a good balance of people within the trade, including architects, contractors and engineers.
To keep the course as current as possible, the new content includes an introduction to product standards and harmonisation, while, for the engineers, there will also be guidance on engineering design.
The course is certainly timely. The new uses for cross-laminated timber are receiving positive comment from many building critics. It brings with it many advantages including a visually appealing structure, built in fire resistance and exemplary green credentials.
Delivered by members of the BM TRADA frameCHECK team, who regularly attend sites to provide best practice advice, or assist in solving problems, the course explores how cross-laminated timber can be used, its benefits and pitfalls.
The course is designed to provide a broad overview of the subject and the specifics of building with cross-laminated timber. Course content includes: manufacture, pre-processing off site, design principles and detailing, hybrid forms, shrinkage, fire and disproportionate collapse
The course is also written to complement BM TRADA’s ‘Innovative Timber Construction’ book.
This recent publication has been written to expand on information provided on some alternative forms of timber construction mentioned in Timber Frame Construction 5th Edition. Four of the most common types of alternative timber walls and roofs are explored, including cross-laminated timber.
The cost per person including the Innovative Timber Construction Book is £215 + VAT for TRADA members (£189 without the book) and £265 + VAT for non-members (£229 without the book). Book online or contact the training department
