BM TRADA to provide CPDs to Architects and Engineers

Posted on 25/11/2014

BM TRADA is set to deliver a series of in-house practice events aimed at architects and engineers as part of its CPD (Continuing Professional Development) contract for the UK’s wood promotion campaign, Wood for Good.

The in-house events – which run alongside a series of regional seminars - delivered by BM TRADA’s Technical Consultants. The training will encompass a wide range of timber-related topics, including cladding, connections, Eurocode 5, specification, durability and modern methods of construction.

Demand for the training has been high: to date in 2014 BM TRADA has received 135 enquiries for in-practice CPD.

The training will cover updates/changes to relevant British and European Standards, Building Regulations and timber products and include case studies to highlight what can be achieved when constructing using timber and outline the decision-making steps undertaken by the practice involved.

In addition, BM TRADA experts will address concerns expressed by construction professionals about the use of wood for specific applications.

Any architects interested in receiving the training can expect to find out about the role of timber in low-carbon construction; how to get the best out of timber in construction; external timber cladding; specifying and detailing for durability; and modern methods of timber construction.

Engineers will get an update on Eurocode 5, engineered wood products and what can be achieved with them and Timber connections

BM TRADA’s Technical Consultants will also provide CPD ‘surgeries’ of up to 30 minutes, giving delegates the opportunity to submit technical questions for discussion after the event.

The Wood for Good campaign works on behalf of the whole timber industry in the UK. It aims to promote the suitability and sustainability of wood as a building material to the construction and logistics sectors and associated professionals such as architects and design engineers.
