Interserve, the international support services and construction group, has become the first company to achieve certification by BM TRADA to BS11000, the collaborative business relationships standard. Interserve Construction was commended for its collaborative working methods, with three of its business units certified in recognition of their collaboration with customers, supply chain partners and peer organisations.
Ian Renhard, Managing Director of Interserve Construction comments:
“Collaborative working has always been an intrinsic part of how Interserve goes about its business. BS11000 provides a framework for us to measure our performance in those collaborative business relationships and a more formalised approach to achieving collaborative business relationships. The certification confirms that our working practices are achieving high standards in this area, and also provides a basis for continuous improvement.
“We were able to achieve certification in a little over six months, an achievement that is testimony to the high level of collaboration we used internally, with our peer organisations and with BM TRADA. In other words, the very methodology we were being certified on was the one that we used to achieve it.”
Launched in 2010, BS11000: Collaborative Business Relationships is the world’s first national standard officially to recognise best practice in business networks. Based on real-life, pan-sector examples of good practice, it has been devised with the aim of providing a strategic and consistent, yet scalable framework to establish and improve collaborative relationships in organisations of all sizes.
Benefits of the new standard include improved competitiveness and performance; more transparent and harmonious relationships with partners, internal departments, suppliers and customers; and greater risk management.
Speaking about the success of the pilot scheme, Vic Bowen, Chief Operating Officer, UK Certification said:
“BS11000: Collaborative Business Relationships is a standard which establishes a strategic and adaptable eight-stage framework for delivering best practice in all forms of collaborative relationships, both internal and within the wider business environment.
“Effective business relationships underpin business success and innovation, and BM TRADA is delighted to have assisted Interserve in achieving certification to the BS11000 standard. We now look forward to offering BS11000 to all our customers.”
