Timber Expo - part of UK Construction Week

Timber Expo is now part of UK Construction Week. The newly launched UK Construction Week (6 – 11 October 2015), spans five halls of the NEC and will include nine shows specific to the UK construction industry. The UK’s biggest design and build event company, UK Construction Week promises to be the strongest trade event the building and construction industry has ever seen.

Timber-Expo_VSG-Demo.jpgOn the back of a highly successful programme of live activities in 2014, BM TRADA  will once again be showcasing its timber testing and inspection credentials at this year’s Timber Expo with an exciting range of demonstrations and displays as part of its 100m² ‘Live Zone’.

All demonstrations will be delivered by a team of specialists in their field who will also be on hand afterwards to answer any questions.

The programme includes:

10.30 - 11.00 Manual attack testing on an enhanced security timber window – elements of PAS24
This demonstration will show a security test on an enhanced security timber window. It will highlight key aspects of the PAS 24 test required for Secured by Design by simulating a typical form of manual attack using a range of tools. This will include a 3 minute attack on the glazing and infill systems and manipulation of the window’s hardware.

11.30 - 12.00 Visual strength grading– a practical demonstration
This practical demonstration will provide you with the opportunity to get an overview of the process of grading timber, an explanation of strength grading, the meaning of strength classes and the difference in approach between softwood and hardwood.

As part of the demonstration you will be able to handle the samples to help you get a better understanding of the process involved in grading timber.

12.30 - 13.00 Timber species identification – a look down the microscope.
A technical consultant will be carrying out a timber species identification demonstration, examining different species and demonstrating the methods employed to verify the wood species in a product. Visitors will also get the chance to ‘look down the microscope’ to see for themselves.

14.30 - 15.00 Timber strength testing – have a go yourself!
This practical and informative demonstration will provide you with the opportunity to test the strength between various pieces of timber. Visitors will get the chance to gradually increase the load and view the results on a monitor which will demonstrate the strength characteristics of each piece of timber.

15.30 - 16.00 Timber frame construction - how to get it right
This demonstration will look at a typical timber frame construction, exploring the difference in design and build aspects.

In addition to the demonstrations BM TRADA will also be hosting an 'Innovation zone'. This zone will present new innovative products and software to the industry and will comprise 30 minute presentations delivered by the winners and shortlisters of the TTJ's Timber Innovation Award, supported by Timber Expo and TRADA.

In the product category, the shortlisted entries that will be on show are:
